We now support automated/scheduled watering events in the Pulse app with our OpenSprinkler integration! The Pulse Hub + OpenSprinkler integration allows our users to create and customize automated and scheduled watering events using the Pulse Hub & connected Hub-Ready Sensor data.

Setting up your OpenSprinkler device

Please refer to the OpenSprinkler Getting Started Guide and the Setup Tutorials provided by OpenSprinkler to set up your device on their platform. You can find alternative related OpenSprinkler documentation here.

Setting up your OTC token REQUIRED

  1. Go to openthings.io and log in using your opensprinkler.com login information. If you do not yet have an opensprinkler.com account, go to www.opensprinkler.com and click on 'My Account' at the top, then register for a new user account. The two websites share the same log in.

  2. Once logged into openthings.io, you will be on your dashboard. On the left-hand side of the dashboard click "My OpenThings OTC Devices". Note: Do not click the "Blynk Devices" link, this is not the same as your OTC token.

  3. Next, type in a device description, select 'OpenSprinkler' from the dropdown list, then click on Add New Device. This will create a new OpenSprinkler device, and you will see the OTC token as seen in the screenshot below. You will need to copy and paste this token to your OpenSprinkler settings (explained below).

  4. Next, update your OpenSprinkler settings. You will need to change the settings on your OpenSprinkler device to enable the OTC token. To do so, open a browser and type in the IP address of your device, this should show the web UI. To find your OpenSprinkler device IP address, refer to page 8 of the OpenSprinkler manual

  5. Click the lower-right corner icon to go to 'Edit Options', and click the 'Integration' tab. Choose Enable. Then copy/paste your entire OTC token into the Token box. The default OTC server is ws.cloud.openthings.io and the default port is 80. You can leave them as is. Submit the changes and finally reboot your OpenSprinkler. Now you are all set.

  6. To verify if the OTC cloud connection is valid after the controller is rebooted, at the homepage, swipe left to the right (or click the upper-left corner icon) to open the left-side menu, then click 'System Diagnostics.' At the bottom of the panel you will see OTC status. If it shows 'Connected' that means the connection is successful. If it shows 'Connecting...' you may want for 30 seconds and re-check. The status shows 'Not enabled' if OTC is not enabled, or 'Disconnected' if for some reason the connection has failed.

Enabling "Ignore Password" OPTIONAL

This is an optional setting and, once enabled, no longer requires a password to connect to your device via OTC.

  1. Tap on the lower right corner icon and then "edit options".

  2. Go into the "Advanced" menu and enable the "Ignore Password" checkbox.

Adding your OpenSprinkler to the Pulse App

  1. Click the blue + in the bottom right-hand corner of your dashboard.

  2. Select the "OpenSprinkler" device option

  3. Fill in your OTC token and OpenSprinkler device password *This is not your openthings.com password; this is the password to the physical device set during setup. If ignore password is enabled, leave blank*

  4. If successful, you'll be brought back to your dashboard with the OpenSprinkler card added.

Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting

How do I reset my Open Sprinkler Device Password? You can reset your password via the OpenSprinkler platform by going into the "sidebar" and selecting "Change Password". Alternatively, you can disable the password using the physical unit: "if you have forgotten your device password, you can use buttons to bypass the password. To do so, first remove power from OpenSprinkler; then plug the power back in, as soon as you see the OpenSprinkler Logo, press and hold push-button B3, and continue holding B3 until the LCD displays 'Setup Options'. Then click B3 as many times as you need until it shows 'Ignore Password'. Click B1 to select Yes, and finally press and hold B3 until the controller reboots itself. Now you can access the controller with any password. For security reasons, we recommend you to immediately change the password and set the Ignore Password option back to No." - (Ray Wang, OS User Manual)
